If you are reading this, there is a good chance you are planning a trip to Crema or Northern Italy to visit the filming locations of Call Me by Your Name. This quaint town is quite charming, and when we visited the tourist office, the staff advised us to make sure we saw the city beyond the movie. So I pass that advice to you. If you are heading to Crema, I highly recommend renting a car to visit further locations. If you can’t, the train and bike will get you there too. When arriving in Crema, head straight to the tourist office across the street from the Duomo (you can’t miss it). There, they have CMBYN memorabilia, a gift shop, and a map to all the locations around Crema. The only downside to their map was that it didn’t include exact addresses, only pins on a map.
Piazza Duomo (Crema)
- I could bet a lot of money this is where most people go when visiting Crema, not only because of the beautiful clock tower and Duomo, but also because of the tourist office and many iconic locations here. I am showing you three of the most memorable filming locations, which arguably are the most recognizable.
Let’s break it down:
- Piazza del Duomo, 14, 26013 Crema (La Provincia) – This location served as the Newsagent featured in the film. Check the operating hours in advance, as it closes in the middle of the day.
- Piazza del Duomo, 26013 Crema – “So what does one do around here?” This picturesque scene showcases the clock tower in the back, probably the prettiest view of all of Crema.
- Via Marazzi, 1, 26013 Crema – The door that Elio and Oliver are about to kiss on, now covered in drawn-on quotes and names, is right around the corner of Piazza Duomo. Pro Tip: BRING YOUR OWN PERMANENT MARKER.
“Arci Club”
- Located at Via XI Febbraio, 14, 26013 Crema CR, Italy, named Circolo Arci San Bernardino, is where the disco club scenes took place. It is a 21-minute walk from the city centre or a 7-minute drive. There are many unrecognizable scenes in Crema, but this one is just not the case. It is highly memorable, and they even dedicated a mural to little Timothy on one of their walls.
Elio’s Secret Hiding Place
- Elio’s secret hiding place is probably the most sought-after location outside of Crema’s city center. Located at Via Cascina Volpino, 26010 Capralba CR, Italy, it was featured in multiple shots, including the spot where Elio and Oliver have their first kiss. You will have to bike here or walk, as driving is forbidden at a certain point. Rent a bike and listen to the CMBYN playlist on your way there!
Archeological site (Jamaica Beach, Sirmone)
An hour and a half away from Crema is Jamaica Beach. This was featured in Elio and Oliver’s trip near the end of the movie. It actually hardly ever looks as empty as the movie because it is a major tourist destination on Lake Garda. The city and beach itself are extremely picturesque, so I recommend visiting, swimming in the lake, and exploring the ancient ruins.
- Archaeological site of Grotte di Catullo (Piazzale Orti Manara, 4, 25019 Sirmione BS, Italy) – The archaeological site Elio and Oliver visit is right next to Jamaica Beach. Tickets for the site are available here.

Other Locations Near Crema
- Via Montodine, 1, 26010 Moscazzano CR, Italy – This is the villa used in the movie where the Perlman family lived. Although I don’t recommend visiting because it is out of the way, and closed off to the public by a gate.
- Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, 27, 26025 Pandino CR, Italy – This is the place where Elio and Oliver argue in front of a war memorial. This is a memorable scene that I visited, but I was slightly disappointed because there is not much to see or do here, and it is a 20-minute drive outside of Crema.
- 24020 Valbondione Province of Bergamo, Italy. – This waterfall is part of Elio and Oliver’s final trip. It is gorgeous to see and is the highest waterfall in Italy, making it worth a visit. This is the further location from the other, unfortunately.
- 26026 Pizzighettone Province of Cremona, Italy – The goodbye scene just outside of Crema took place here. Is it worth visiting? You decide. To me, it resembles many other train stations in Italy.
- Piazza Duomo, 1, 24129 Bergamo BG, Italy – The last location worth noting is where Elio and Oliver spent some of the final evening together. Alone, this place is beautiful, but it is far from Crema and other locations.
The people of Crema truly embrace the fans of Call Me by Your Name, and for many, this will be the most authentic Italian experience they will get. This town moves at a slow pace, so take your time visiting these places and taking pictures. What location are you most excited to visit? Comment it below.
