12-Hour Ibiza Trip: Was It Worth It?

My friend and I, who both live in Madrid, decided to have a bit of an adventure by booking a 12-hour trip to Ibiza. Our main goal was to visit a club and return by morning, but the question remains: was it worth it? In this post, I’ll provide an hour-by-hour breakdown along with a cost analysis, leaving the final verdict to you. Would you consider doing it? Honestly, I would… it turned out to be more enjoyable than I initially thought. Let’s talk about it!

Getting There:

When searching for flights to Ibiza, we discovered that traveling on weekdays was more affordable than weekends, not just for airfare but also for club entries. Because of that, we decided to fly on a Wednesday, paying €70 for a round-trip flight from Madrid to Ibiza. If you’re aiming to stick to a budget, I highly recommend traveling during the week, as you’ll save about half the cost compared to weekend prices. Weekdays also tend to be less crowded, which was a plus for us. We had heard horror stories of clubs being so packed on weekends that moving around became nearly impossible.

It’s important to note that this trip would work best for those already in Spain or nearby countries with direct flights to Ibiza. Dealing with a layover could make your return journey quite inconvenient and potentially not worth all the hassle.

10:00 PM
:

At 10 PM, our flight from Madrid to Ibiza departed. The journey lasted just an hour, and we carried only a backpack containing our club outfits, a toothbrush, toothpaste for the following morning, makeup wipes, and a few other essentials. We attempted to catch a quick nap on the plane, but it felt too brief and passed by in a flash. Additionally, we had packed sandwiches for a late dinner since we hadn’t had time to eat earlier while preparing.

11:00 PM
:

After getting off of the airplane, we immediately headed to the airport restroom to change into our club attire and touch up our makeup. Thankfully, our hair and makeup were already done, which helped us save some valuable time. Afterward, we went to find the bus.

12:00 AM:

At midnight, we made our way to the bus, which was incredibly easy to locate, just outside the airport. We took Line 10, and you can always ask the bus driver to confirm that you’re headed to Ibiza if you find yourself a bit confused. The bus ride lasts around 40 minutes and costs €3.60. Note that the bus only accepts cash. Once we arrived in Ibiza, we headed to a locker facility in the city to store our backpacks (€7.90). Locker in the City is a company with locations throughout Europe, operating 24/7, which is essential for this trip. While there were other locker options in Ibiza, they were not open around the clock, making them less convenient for our needs.

1:00 AM
:

Before entering the club, we grabbed a Red Bull and each took a shot. Our destination was Club Pacha, where Diplo and BLOND:ISH were the headlining DJs. We did extensive research on the various clubs, and many people expressed disappointment with others, such as Club HI. To make sure we had a smooth experience, we purchased our tickets in advance, along with drink tickets. If you’re planning a budget-friendly trip to Ibiza, buying drink tickets is essential; it saved us a significant amount. We got a package of five drinks for €40. Typically, each cocktail at the club costs around €30, and a shot is about €22. By purchasing the five drinks for €40, we averaged approximately €9 per cocktail, which is an excellent deal for any club in Spain.

2:00-6:00 AM
:

We arrived at the club at 2 AM and stayed until 6 AM, believing that the timing was just right since clubs typically get busier later. Pacha impressed us with its excellent air conditioning and sound system; plus, the layout places the DJ in the center, providing enough space for everyone. The best part was Diplo sneaking into the crowd and standing next to us, I could literally touch the man! All in all, we had an incredible time. We loved the venue and truly enjoyed the set list.

6:00 AM
:

After leaving the club, we were excited to catch the sunrise, inspired by countless TikTok videos we had seen. It was a Wednesday in Ibiza, and we expected to see multiple people at the beach; however, to our surprise, it was quite empty. We found ourselves among the few at the beach, enjoying a spacious area all to ourselves. We dipped our toes in the sand and relaxed for a bit before deciding to return and locate the bus to the airport.

7:00 AM
:

We located the Line 10 bus back to the airport, but the wait was quite lengthy since it only arrives every 20 to 30 minutes. Because of that, our journey took a full hour. By 7 AM, exhaustion was setting in; we were incredibly tired, and I found myself dozing off on the bus, still dressed in my club clothes.

8:00 AM
:

Upon arriving at the airport, we breezed through the security check, and it was one of the quickest experiences I’ve ever had at an airport. By this time, our stomachs were growling, and I got a sandwich from Subway, which isn’t my usual choice, but oddly enough, that’s what I was craving. The sandwich cost €8, and I also grabbed a water bottle for €2.50, bringing my total breakfast expense to €10.50 for ‘breakfast’.

9:00 AM
:

After eating, I changed out of my club clothes, washed my face, and brushed my teeth before boarding our flight. I was aware that upon my return to Madrid, I would head straight to bed after a shower, so I tried to expedite that process.

10:00 AM
:

At 10 AM, we boarded our flight returning to Madrid. The journey took an hour, and although I unfortunately had a middle seat, I did my best to catch some sleep on the plane.

11:00 AM
:

Upon our arrival in Madrid, my friend and I barely exchanged a word due to our extreme sleep deprivation. We said our goodbyes, returned home, and slept for almost the entire day.

Cost Break Down:

  • €70 Round Trip Flight (With Just a Backpack)
  • €50 Pacha Drink Tickets
  • €40 Pacha Club General Admission Enterance
  • €10.50 Subway Breakfast at the Airport
  • €7.90 Medium Storage Locker
  • €3.60 Bus Ticket to the Club
  • €3.60 Bus Ticket back to the Airport

Total: €185.60 for 1 person. (Some of these costs could be split with a friend)

Was it worth it?

Overall, our trip, totaled to €185.60 for 12 hours in Ibiza. Was it worth it? For us, absolutely! We had an incredible time and, thanks to our thorough planning, we knew exactly what to expect. Despite being extremely tired the next day, I do have one regret: not experiencing Ibiza during the day. If I could do it again, I would challenge myself to extend the trip to 24 hours. This way, we could explore the city, perhaps enjoy a boat tour or swim before heading to the club. However, the challenge would be getting ready without a home base.

If you’re in your 20s or studying abroad in Spain or a nearby country, I highly recommend this adventure. It created unforgettable memories with one of my best friends. Many people thought we were crazy for taking this trip, but it was a shared goal, and we nailed it. I won’t be in my 20s forever, so I wanted to create memories I could look back on and laugh about. While this experience may not be for everyone, we genuinely found it to be much more enjoyable than it might have appeared.
