Sirmione, Italy, stands out as one of the most renowned towns on Lake Garda. Given my family’s residence on the lake, I have frequented Sirmione extensively. With its rising popularity each year, I wanted to offer insights and tips for making the most of a day in this charming town. Beyond exploring the main street, savoring the iconic lemonade from their stand, and admiring the magnificent castle, there are numerous other delights to discover in Sirmione.
Getting There
- To explore Sirmione and Lake Garda efficiently, using a car is recommended. However, be cautious as parking spaces in Sirmione are limited. To make the most of your visit, consider arriving early or parking outside the city center and walking in.
- Sirmione does not have a train station directly in its city center. In this case, you can opt for a taxi, use public transport, or take a ferry if you are traveling from another city.
- Spring or summer is the perfect time to visit Sirmione. Even if swimming is not on the agenda, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy.
Aquaria Thermal SPA
Aquaria Thermal is a spa facility situated overlooking Lake Garda, offering both indoor and outdoor thermal pools, saunas, and steam baths. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our spa day by the lake. The spa provides lockers, food, and drinks on-site. Exploring the various pool areas and themed sections was a delightful experience for us as a couple. Remember to secure your tickets ahead of time for a worry-free visit.

Rent a boat
Renting a boat for four hours on the lake remains one of my cherished memories. We navigated to Garda Island, where a cluster of boats docked, and marveled at the stunning view of the lake and the magnificent castle. If owning a boat seems costly, there are various group cruises, sunset rides, or simply taking the ferry offers a unique perspective.

Drink Lugana wine at Cascina Maddalena
Cascina Maddalena, a winery located just beyond the main street of Sirmione, is dedicated to the local Lugana wine. Despite being a small, family-owned establishment, it attracted visitors from across Europe. Along with a variety of wines, they also offered delightful servings of cheese, bread, and tomatoes, which we thoroughly enjoyed. This winery’s affordability sets it apart from other locations in Italy, and it’s easily accessible by foot if you don’t mind a slightly longer walk.

Jamaica Beach
Jamaica Beach is a popular destination in Sirmione, situated at the far end of the strip. Many visitors walk there, but it’s quite a distance. Alternatively, you can take a train to the beach, passing by it on your journey. From this spot, you can enjoy views extending to Rocca di Manerba and the northern part of the lake. The beach is bordered by clear water and features smooth white rocks polished by the lake’s gentle waves. There is a beach bar with tables and sunbeds that can be accessed on foot. This beach tends to be crowded whenever I visit; I suggest going in the evening when it’s less crowded, allowing you to find a comfortable spot to relax.

Bonus – Il Girasole
One of the best restaurants I experienced in Italy was located in Sirmione and became my favorite meal spot. It featured a lovely outdoor balcony where diners could enjoy their meal while observing people passing by. Along with the delightful setting and atmosphere, the food was exceptional and reasonably priced. We savored the blue cheese gnocchi while my partner indulged in a meat lover pizza. I would definitely revisit this place without hesitation.
