Visiting the Real ‘Twilight’ Filming Locations in Oregon

Twilight has captured the hearts of people worldwide, and my family is part of this dedicated fanbase. During a road trip to Oregon, we were thrilled to visit three filming locations: Bella Swan’s House, “La Push”, and the thunder baseball field scene. This article provides detailed information on these locations (and more) as well as tips for your visit. It’s interesting that most scenes were filmed in Oregon, despite Twilight being set in Forks, Washington. The map shows the spread of locations and highlights the importance of having a car for this adventure.

Twilight Swan’s House

One of the most significant filming locations in Twilight is Bella’s House, located at 184 S 6th St, St Helens, OR 97051. It’s essential to note that this is a private residence, so it’s crucial to show respect when parking and taking photos. Follow the designated parking signs provided. The current owner of this residence is a Twilight enthusiast and offers it for stays on Airbnb (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/28942373?source_impression_id=p3_1721845143_P394H7Ho1YVyEgFt). However, bookings are full for the next two years. During my visit, we were fortunate to have the front to ourselves during the peak of summer. If you find yourself in Saint Helens, I recommend exploring other filming locations if you have the time.

Other Saint Helens Locations:
  • 251 S 1st Street – This was the dress shop where Angela and Jessica purchased their prom attire.
  • 330 S 1st Street – This was used as the Bloated Toad Restaurant, where Edward revealed to Bella his ability to read minds.
  • 2375 Gable Road / St. Helen’s High School – This location served as the interior setting for Forks High School’s office and where Edward showcased his piano skills.

“La Push”

The farthest point from the center of Oregon is Cannon Beach, famously known as “La Push” in the movie. You might recall the scene featuring Bella, Jessica, Mike, Eric, and Angela in the van, filmed in the parking lot, and Jacob and Bella walking while sharing a scary story. Beyond its role as a filming spot, this beach is truly remarkable in its own right, making it a destination worth visiting even without its Twilight connection.

Did you know? Cannon Beach has also been featured in movies like The Goonies, Free Willy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, and others.

Thunder Baseball/Multnomah Falls

The thunder baseball scene from the Twilight series holds a special place in my heart. Located at 50000 Historic Columbia River Highway, Corbett, Oregon, Multnomah Falls was featured in multiple shots, including the iconic baseball scene and the end credits. Although the actual scene was filmed across the highway, visiting Multnomah Falls up close is a memorable experience. This popular waterfall attracts visitors beyond Twilight fans, so it’s advisable to arrive early, especially during the summer months when parking can be challenging near the falls. If parking is scarce, there is parking available down the road with a shuttle service running every 30 minutes. The “hike” to the bridge is easy and suitable for all ages, making it a hassle-free visit.

Vernonia, Oregon

Vernonia, Oregon, located just 31 miles west of St. Helens, was the stand-in for Forks, Washington in the movie. The downtown area was carefully crafted with signage resembling Forks, including a replica of the famous “Welcome to Forks” sign placed on the outskirts of the town. While these spots may be a bit off the beaten path, taking the time to visit could be a unique experience that not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy.

  • Rock Creek Bridge – When Charlie and Bella first arrive in Forks, they drive over this bridge.
  • 1010 Bridge Street – This is where the movie features the Forks Police Station.

Other Sights Near Portland

  • Silver Falls State Park, 20024 Silver Falls Highway SE, Sublimity, Oregon – This location was used for filming the opening scene, the spider monkey scene where Bella jumps on Edward’s back, and other memorable moments.
  • 3333 NW Quimby Street, Portland, Oregon – The Cullen House, also known as Hoke House, is situated on a small street. It’s quite conspicuous for photo opportunities, but visiting is not permitted by the owners. Please refrain from entering the property and respect the privacy of the neighborhood. Even though it would be amazing to see, it’s almost impossible.
  • 2735 NE 82nd Avenue, Portland, Oregon. – This school depicted the interior of Forks High School, encompassing the halls and cafeteria. To explore inside the school, visit during specific hours, mainly in the summer. It’s advisable to research the visiting times in advance.
  • 17900 S Clackamas River Drive, Oregon City – This location was the forest featured in five iconic scenes, including the memorable “This is why we don’t show ourselves in sunlight” moment. Upon arrival, a designated space and sign will confirm that you have reached the correct place.
  • 16471 SE Highway 224, Damascus, Oregon. – The renowned Carver Café, known as the Forks Diner in various scenes, offers a Twilight guestbook where you can leave your mark and share your experience. Dining there is a must-do to immerse yourself in Bella Swan’s world for a day.

There are numerous lesser-known spots in Oregon and Washington, but I aimed to showcase the most significant ones. As many of these locations are private residences, please show respect and contribute to the local businesses. Enjoy your Twilight-themed exploration!
